SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT
Roush specializes in integrating design,
analysis and testing to develop innovative solutions
to noise and vibration issues. With a focus on
value, we frequently analyze a variety of solutions
to optimize both effectiveness and cost. From
the development of simple design changes to the
manufacturing of noise and vibration control products,
Roush provides both prototype and production solutions.
We are often called upon to eliminate a fatigue
failure or reduce a product's noise level
by 3-5 dba. We have been very successful in developing
innovative solutions for a wide array of products.
Examples can be found in the Solutions
section of this website.
Source/Structural Modifications
Our primary objective is controlling the source
of excitation by improving product designs to
enhance structural dynamic properties. Excitation
sources are also controlled by addressing part-to-part
clearances (i.e., gears, bearings, etc.) and mechanical
impacting, or by minimizing the mass of moving
components. Sources of excitation frequently interact
with structural dynamics to cause instabilities
such as brake noise and machine tool chatter.
We are experts in providing practical, effective
solutions to these problems.
Damping
Effective damping methods require expertise in
material properties and structural dynamics. The
damping solutions developed by Roush can take
on many forms, including:
- Free layer
- Constrained layer
- Laminated metal
- Tuned mass dampers
- Damping links
- Particle dampers
- Viscous absorbers
- Active absorbers
Isolation
Vibration isolation is often a practical, effective
suppression technique, which breaks the path of
noise and vibration by separating the source from
the receiver. Effective isolation design requires
an extensive knowledge of elastomer material properties,
and can require our expertise in advanced analytical
techniques to examine complex dynamics.
Acoustic Absorption/Barriers/Enclosures
To minimize reverberation and break the
transmission path, acoustic materials can be strategically
designed and applied for maximum acoustic absorption
and transmission loss performance.
