Noise and Vibration Control
Problem: Military vehicles, unlike
automotive passenger cars, can be relatively noisy
inside. However, military specifications limit
the amount of noise exposure to its occupants.
Roush has applied its noise and vibration
control expertise to a range of military vehicles.
Solution: In early stages of
development Roush was contracted to develop
noise control treatments for a new military vehicle.
Noise and vibration measurements were made during
vehicle operation to identify airborne and structure
borne noise sources and paths. Acoustic barriers,
acoustic absorption materials, constrained-layer
damping systems, and new component designs were
implemented on the vehicle.
Results:
The noise levels inside and outside of the vehicle
met or were under the military maximum noise specifications.
Roush worked with the production supplier
of the acoustic package to bring the treatments
from the test lab into full scale production.
