TESTING & DEVELOPMENT
TEST & MEASUREMENT PRODUCTS - LapDAQ
LapDAQ is a compact, rugged
enclosure designed specifically to house 5B
signal-conditioning modules - possibly the
most reliable, rugged signal conditioning electronics
available. LapDAQ accomodates up to sixteen
(16) modules providing protection from industrial
or other harsh environments in a highly compact
configuration. The LapDAQ system's power supply
meets all the power requirements for up to
16 5B modules.
The LapDAQ system’s modular
architecture makes this unit an ideal solution
for a variety of applications. The system is a
rugged, laptop-sized unit that runs off of a battery,
12-volt DC power supply or 110 or 220-volt AC adapter.
It is configurable up to 16 channels of variable
inputs such as voltage, current, RTDs, thermocouples,
strain gauges (including excitation voltages),
load cells and pressure transducers; virtually
any type of signals for which 5B modules can be
utilized. The "plug and run" design allows
the user to quickly and simply change the signal
conditioning.
Connector "panellettes" further enhance the flexibility of the LapDAQ
system. These specially designed plug-in modules provide connectivity for BNC,
Lemo, thermocouple mini, and banana-plug connectors; enabling the user to mix
and match cable connectors and providing greater reliability, accuracy and
durability over wire screw terminals. These user-configurable connector panels
allow the use of standard cables and connectors for any sensor.

5B Signal Conditioning Modules
The 5B Series of signal conditioning modules represents a generation of low
cost, high performance plug-in signal conditioners. Originally designed for
industrial applications, these modules incorporate transformer-based isolation
and automated surface mount manufacturing technology. 5B signal conditioning
modules provide a single channel of isolated analog input or output, and have
compact, economical components whose performance exceeds that available from
more expensive devices. Input modules interface with all types of external
sensors. The modules filter, isolate, amplify, and convert the input signal
to a high-level analog voltage output. The output modules accept a high-level
analog voltage signal from a host system, then buffer, isolate, and amplify
before providing a process current or voltage output to field devices. Combining
1500 V rms continuous CMV isolation, ±0.05% calibrated accuracy, small
size and low cost, the 5B Series is an attractive alternative to expensive
signal conditioners and in-house designs.
Roush's LapDAQ is designed specifically to house and support 5B signal conditioning
modules. Providing everything from a compact set of custom designed 5B back
planes to low noise, built-in power supplies, the LapDAQ offers a superior,
portable enclosure for harsh environments. The 5B signal conditioning modules
are available for:
- DC Voltage ranging from +/- 10 mV to =/- 40 volts
- Frequency inputs ranging from 500 Hertz to 50 KHertz
- Thermocouples including J, K, T, E, R, S, b, and N
- RTD’s including 2, 3, and 4 wire
- Potentiometer inputs ranging from 100 ohms to 10 Kohms
- Strain gauges both full and half bridge
- Current input 4-20 mA
